WARNING

NOT EVERYTHING THAT

CALLS ITSELF ORTHODOX IS

TRULY ORTHODOX

The above warning was given to me when I first met Orthodoxy in 1986. Today [2009] it is even more perilous, even more difficult to find the Royal Path. For one thing there is a far greater abundance of misinformation. And many materials are missing, and other materials are being rapidly rewritten. For another thing there are fewer than ever guides remaining on the Royal Path, especially who speak English. Hopefully this website will be a place where Newcomers to the Faith can keep at least one foot on solid ground, while they are "exploring."

hopelessly world-orthodox: an indiscriminate list of the undiscriminating

Red flags:
Concilliar Press
Light & Life Publishers
Orthodox Research Institute (suspected KGB)
St. Vladimir's Press

Schmemann
Mathewes-Green
John Granger (see posts about Harry Potter on this blog)
Gillquist
Hopko
Jacobse

Again Magazine
Ancient Faith Radio
Road to Emmaus

Despite the red flags, you can find some worth books.  Check the list of books offered by http://www.sjkp.org
If  a book is listed on sjkp, then it is 99.9% sure to be safe.  But even safe books should not be taken out of context.  Fr. Seraphim Rose, for example, if taken out of context, can be abused to make it appear he supports world-orthodoxy.  Fr. Seraphim also recommends a list of authors for us, none of which I see listed on orthodoxchristianbooks.

Orthodox Research Institute archives provide a convenient list of the world orthodox primates:
