WARNING

NOT EVERYTHING THAT

CALLS ITSELF ORTHODOX IS

TRULY ORTHODOX

The above warning was given to me when I first met Orthodoxy in 1986. Today [2009] it is even more perilous, even more difficult to find the Royal Path. For one thing there is a far greater abundance of misinformation. And many materials are missing, and other materials are being rapidly rewritten. For another thing there are fewer than ever guides remaining on the Royal Path, especially who speak English. Hopefully this website will be a place where Newcomers to the Faith can keep at least one foot on solid ground, while they are "exploring."

This book was first published in Russian, and later in 1991 translated into English.  Below are pictured the covers of the old edition and the new edition.

I'm glad this book if finally for sale again.  But I wish they had left it as it was originally.  The only improvement is that in the new edition there is an added one-page biography of Archim. Panteleimon which includes his photo — the only photo in the book.  Otherwise, the format is not as clear as the original, the size is not as easy to handle as the original, the construction is not as easy to handle (PUR as opposed to saddle-stitched), none of the original photos are included.  Some people might prefer to have all the numbered notes at the end of the book instead of at the ends of the pages where they occur — so I won't complain about that.  BUT!  I will complain that the Editor's Notes (side comments) have been omitted altogether.   What a shame!  And why does the new edition so repeatedly insert the word "the" in front of "Antichrist," where Archimandrite Panteleimon just says, "Antichrist"?    This confuses the Antichrist spirit with Antichrist the person.   Archimandrite's contemporary, Abp. Averky, was careful to make the distinction between the spirit and the man.

I'm posting chapter 10 from each edition for your comparison.  ~jh
