Well, I am glad SOMEONE is FINALLY getting around to glorifying Father Seraphim. About time! As I have thought for years, if he is not a saint, then there are no saints. (Maybe we can get Saint Averky of Jordanville and Syracuse next?) But "Synaxis of Saints of the Russian Church in the American Land"? Forgive me, that's just silly. Why not "All Saints of North America"? We have quite a few at this point. And let's face it, they were pretty much all under the Russian Church (exceptions escape me for the moment; even St. Sebastian Dabovich and St. Raphael were under St. Tikhon). Seems redundant anyway.

David, I too am so comforted by this news. If Fr. Seraphim is not in heaven, then what chance would I have? Another thing important here is that Fr. Seraphim is being glorified by his own Church. If one of the schisms (R-fragments) canonized him, then it would not count. Fr. Seraphim, like St. John S&S, was intensely loyal to the true old ROCOR. I'm grateful the true ROCOR got here first. It saves a lot of contention that the R-splits did not trespass on us. St. John S&SF also was first glorified by his own.
ReplyDeleteAnd along with you I also hope that the "synaxis" will include Abp. Averky Taushev, and Archim. Constantine Ziatsev, and Ivan Kontsevish, and Archpriest Michael Pomazansky, and etc. Even if they are not named, we still know they are part of the synaxis — those who cared for us Americans and prayed for us.
Years ago ROCOR (Vl. Agafangel) said we need to glorify Fr. Seraphim Rose. But we needed first to glorify the old ROCOR Metropolitans. Now that is done. So now is the time. I am grateful if God lets me live to see this day.
Vl. Agafangel sent us this message from Ukraine:
ReplyDelete“ In November, we are going to glorify St. Seraphim Rose, we need to write and print icons, prepare a service, etc. Our priests will come and, perhaps, some of the bishops, we need to receive everyone. We cannot invite anyone in particular from other countries - there are air raids and strong explosions several times a day here, and it is impossible to come from Russia and Belarus at all. But, never mind - glory to God for everything!”
