WARNING

NOT EVERYTHING THAT

CALLS ITSELF ORTHODOX IS

TRULY ORTHODOX

The above warning was given to me when I first met Orthodoxy in 1986. Today [2009] it is even more perilous, even more difficult to find the Royal Path. For one thing there is a far greater abundance of misinformation. And many materials are missing, and other materials are being rapidly rewritten. For another thing there are fewer than ever guides remaining on the Royal Path, especially who speak English. Hopefully this website will be a place where Newcomers to the Faith can keep at least one foot on solid ground, while they are "exploring."

New World Order vs. Christian World Order

from the book:
Conversations With My Heart
by Saint Metr. Anastasy
page 32

"... Christianity brought with it a completely self-sufficient spiritual world order that is firmly established on its own foundation.  The leaven of the Gospel, once it had entered mankind, should not have been mixed with the "old leaven" of the spirit of this world, which deeply penetrates the heart of the personal and social life of mankind and becomes like a second nature.  The kingdom of Christ, from the first day of its establishment on this earth, placed itself in opposition to the world as separate from it and even antagonistic to its first principles.  The science of Christian moral perfection is found in a series of antinomies resulting from this opposition.  Thus, for example, one must humble oneself to be raised up.  One must be weak to become strong.  One must become a fool to attain true wisdom.  One must reject everything to obtain everything.  One must lay down one's own life to receive it once more.  One must die in order to resurrect and live eternally.  Here we see an obvious contrast of two mutually exclusive orders and principles of life, between which there can be no permanent — or even temporary — alliance.  One must pass away for the other to  flourish on its ruins.  Any attempt to throw a bridge between them has always led to a secularization of Christianity and to a lowering of its exalted ideal. ..."
